What is abuse?

When an animal is mistreated, when it is forced to endure suffering through small to large acts of cruelty, it is being abused. With a lax approach to animal rights and a culture that has not stressed the importance of empathy enough, animal abuse is quite common in India.

What to do when you see an animal being abused?

1) First, try the diplomatic approach. Every person is capable of great love and this is the part of them to which we must appeal. Download and print the pet care and animal rights pamphlets from our downloads section. Talk to them in detail about how much you yourself care about animals and cannot bear to see them less than happy- people are more convinced by passion than be preaching. You could even invite them over to your house to see how well cared for your pets are.

2) If the person refuses to listen or remains unmoved, contact your local animal welfare group, such as M.I.P. Outline the suffering of the animals and the steps you've taken. Request for a representative or volunteer to help you talk to the person again.

3) Legal action is the final option. The download section provides you with formats that will help you file an FIR with your local police station. It would be wise to take along a copy of the relevant laws as well. Volunteers from local animal welfare groups can help you with this process.
